Aborigianl Art Source Interview

By Interviewer at 08/31/09 07:44

Name of your website?

Aborigianl Art Source

Your name?

Ky Lacoste

Your Location (city, etc)

Sydney

Please give us a short summary of your website?

It is a information and retail site for people interested in Aboriginal art. We work to provide people with great information on all aspects of the art and culture. We also provide access to the art for affordable fair prices.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

The inspiration behind the art is the art and culture itself. Aboriginal culture is among the oldest known to man. The art that is created is extraordinary and very visually appealing.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

This is our first website and it remains a work in progress. It was originally launched in early 2008.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

We came up with a name that would in body everything Aboriginal, from the artworks to the culture.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

Its not so much a retail site or just a informative site. It is more like a portal that provides a bit of everything, but does so thoroughly.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To continue to build the site with more content and share with the world the incredible art and culture that is Aboriginal.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Because I see this as a hobby and have a strong interest in the art and culture myself. I don't really consider this work and my time spent here is just fun.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Not much, maybe have a web dev company give me some ideas on how to improve upon the look and feel of the site.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes, because we offer free information, so bring on the viewers.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

The only real head aches is deciding on what content to publish and how much.

What has been your biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge to date is just advertising and promoting the site. With so much out there online, its tough to get noticed. We can only continue to provide great information and keep plugging away.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

At this point it is the paid search and various directories that we are a part of.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

The running of it is fun and challenging, you are always learning new things. The main challenge or difference is the advertising and figuring out the best practices for doing it well.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

The site will be ongoing as long as people have a interest and it continues to be fun for me.

What do you enjoy the most about your products or services?

I really enjoy looking at the traditional artwork practices that are blended with today's techniques. The contemporary Aboriginal art is very exciting and beautiful.

What is your website address?
