Please give us a short summary of your website?
We have a showcase for our products with a brief overview of the arts and artisans of Bali. As the site develops over time it will include both cultural information about Bali and its artists and also useful hints, for example, how to make the right choices when considering an indoor water feature.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I love communications technology and graphic design software tools, so the decision to market my design & import business over the web was a natural one.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first personal site was called softwired - back when I was an interactive CD-ROM and digital media producer with intentions of branching inot commercial website development.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
My wife is a yoga teacher with a deep knowledge of Indian culture and philosophy. As you will see on my website front page the Sanskrit word "Maya" is a tricky one, meaning much more than "illusion" And the creation bit is my love of design and the collaborative process of bringing new objects into the world.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
I believe our emphasis of melding the obvious commercial aspect with true respect for the artisans who produce most of our product makes us a bit different from the bulk of other similar sites. But of course we aren't unique in that.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Keep it for income.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
So far it's more of a love job!
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I'd include a lot more cultural and technical product information with plenty of video and audio links, through U Tube for example. And with frequent fresh articles and links to many more Bali and Arts related sites.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Really quickly? Not easy. However i haven't attempted to popularise my site until I have the backbone business infrastructure. And that's very close to completion now.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Lack of capital for stock in hand and most importantly marketing meetings.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Time.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Ask me again in six months. I hope I will have a clear answer.
What is your website address?
