Apple Candle Sticks

By Kayla at 02/19/09 10:14

I found a really cute idea to dress up your dinner table. I guess you could really use these anywhere though. You and you family can each make one. You want to be careful with the little ones though because there will be sharp objects used.

What you first want to do is go buy some apples. The pretty red ones will work the best. You want to make sure they stand straight up and down. If you have some apples at home that works too. Just make sure they sit up straight.

Next you get a core cutter and cut out half of the core. You want to make sure you have some still in there so you can set your apple in it. If the hole is a little to big just wrap a little bit of wax paper around the bottom of your candle.

What you want to do next is get a potato peeler. This works best, ecspecially for the kids, so they don't cut themselves. So have them use the top of the peeler. They want to use the tip and carve whatever design they want into there apple. You could have dots, stripes, or hearts.

Now that you have your pattern carved in the apple you want to rub lemon juice on the carved part. This way the white stays fresh. You don't want it to get all brown. And there's your apple candle stick.
