Don't underestimate the things that you can do when you are infatuated with someone. This is what I learned around five years ago when I had this very huge crush on a girl who was in the same class as mine.
She isn't the prettiest of the lot, but she certainly is one of the most intelligent, and everyone who knows me well knows that I am turned on with intelligence. Since it was still in high school, you cannot really expect the admiration to last a very long time. Nonetheless, it was a brief take on madness, unseen before in my book.
Well, to simply put it, I created a large card for her birthday, something that you won't normally see outside. I used a 1/8 illustration board and covered it with some special foil. I then used pieces of bond paper to put in my birthday wishes, written with some glitter ink, and pasted it in place. I also posted some pictures in order to make the "card" a lot less boring. Finally, I used some plastic cover in order to, well, cover the entire thing.
Sounds cheesy? You bet. I certainly cannot see myself today doing the same thing for anyone. I was probably that immersed in my admiration that I was constrained to give a card. Of course I had to give it sneakily, because I really didn't know how to do it. The funny thing was that, at the same time, my bestfriend then also had a crush on the same girl, so that made the two of us somewhat competing for attention.
Weeks passed and the admiration was still there, though maybe it was not strong enough to actually make me court her. Time came when it was as if nothign happened. Oh well, life has to move on, I suppose.
Ah the things that you do for admiration. Sometimes I wish I could go back to those times. Everything seemed so OK back then. The same cannot be said about today.
