Please give us a short summary of your website?
The web site has wonderful pictures of all our products. We provide detailed information on our ingredients and their benefits. The site is very easy to navigate and we hope if you have a few moments that you come by and visit us and it is always just fun to look at all the pictures.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
For years, my Friends and family have loved the soaps and candles that I had been making for them. They strongly urged me to start my own web site so they could purchase more of our products.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I started my own web site based business on July 1 of 2007. My product line mainly consisted of handmade soap and bath & body products, but soon I will be adding hand poured soy candles and unique glycerin soaps. I am always discovering new and exciting products, ingredients and I hope to continue to expand the product line.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Well it just rolled off my tongue one day and it stuck...Sherri's Scents and Soys and that was it!
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
All of the products are handmade with care and passion. Our Soaps are made with fresh, quality ingredients are used in each beautifully handcrafted bar. Each luxurious bar of soap is scented with premium fragrance oils, essential oils and is sure to delight your senses. We use a combination of 8-12 specially selected oils and butters to produce a gentle cleansing, moisturizing and conditioning bar of soap rich in lather and bubbles.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I would like to get my products into every ones hands, because I think that once you experience our products, you will not want to go back to store bought soaps and candles again.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I love what I do and people seem to enjoy my products. My goal, everyday, is to provide my customers quality service and products. That takes time, testing, knowledge, effort and money to meet those high standards and I would not have it any other way.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Maybe have some creative graphics made for the site and product line.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
One can only wish for such success. I take everyday one day at a time and feel that I can meet any demands that may arise.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Shipping costs are a huge factor in my business. Most of my supplies are purchase from out of state and that affects the final costs.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Advertising can be very expensive and time consuming. I have had to become creative to get our name and product out to the masses by creating flyers, distributing products samples, passing out business cards and advertising on the internet.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I advertise for my business by talking to friends and family and asking them to spread the word. Always having business cards to pass out or leave with potential customers. I have shared my products with people I know and associate with such as, Doctors, cashier, neighbors and other crafters.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
My web site is always changing and growing. It is a challenge, but I am very proud of it and hope to share it with more people. When you manage your own web site, you can be as creative as you want and I like the freedom in that.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
My web site has been up for 9 months now. I hope to continue to have a web site. It is the most cost efficient way to reach people all over the country and the world.
