Wooden Art by Larry and Liz Interview

By Interviewer at 11/04/07 12:02

Name of your website?

Wooden Art by Larry and Liz

Your name?

Larry Oster

Your Location (city, etc)

Greenacres City

Please give us a short summary of your website?

we carve wildlife intarsia, individual pieces and murals. Hand painted raised relief portraits mounted in a porthole. Kid's favorites, and whimsical signs, as well as custom painted and carved pets done from photos sent or e-mailed to us.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

we had a warm response to our work and wanted to reach more people.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

May 2007, woodenartbylandl.com was our first venture on the internet.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

My daughter picked it . We wanted to include both of our names in the title because this is something we enjoy doing together.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

we are able to not only offer an item for sale but we can customize it to order, or create an unique piece working from photos supplied by the customer.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Eventually we hope that it will become self-supporting even allowing us a second income.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

We have received very encouraging reviews on our site but as yet few orders so we feel more time will be needed to tell.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would do more online advertising.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

yes, we have everything in place for that eventuality

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

web developement especially promotion was more costly than we had anticipated.

What has been your biggest challenge?

getting traffic to our site

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

just getting the word out whether by trading links, posting on forums where potential clients culd be found, and adding a link to free directories.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It has been much more time consuming than I would ever have imagined.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

6 months now and we plan to go a year before making any new plans for it.

What do you get out of this site.

It has allowed me to spend more time with my daughter working together, and we have been blessed to bring joy to people we have done work for.

What is your website address?
