Crayons are probably the first art materials that we have probably held when we were still in our toddler years. I'm pretty sure almost of us enjoyed scribbling and drawing colored pictures all over our sheets of paper--and, in some cases, even the walls of our homes, much to the dismay of our parents.
Now that we have grown up, it is still never wrong to go and create artworks with a crayon, especially if you have a child because it makes a fun a bonding activity for you and your kids!
Have you ever wondered of the things that you can do with those small pieces of crayon that cannot be used properly anymore? You can still do something about it and make sure that you get the most out of the crayons you buy. What I'm going to tell now is one of those all-familiar projects that we might have made during our younger years.
Simply put, you can melt these small pieces of crayons and make a painting-like creation. For this project, all you need to have are the scrap crayons, metal spoons, and a candle. Just put the scrap crayon, piece by piece, on the spoon and let it melt over the heat of the candle. You can even melt two crayons together if you want them to mix colors.
After this, you can just spread the melted colors over your worksheet as you wish. You can draw outlines of the form you want to create beforehand and fill them with colors, or you can just go all-abstract with it. Just be careful with the handling of the candle, especially if you're doing it with your child because he/she might play with the candle and get hurt. You can let your child do the color spreading but make sure that you're the one who's going to do the melting part. Safety first as always.
