Make a Fourth of July centerpiece that really sparkles

By Sandy at 06/26/07 13:40

Want a creative centerpiece for your holiday table on the Fourth of July? You can make one that would look great especially outdoors on the table where you are serving your food for the party.

Gather the following items:

  • A vintage lunchbox, hopefully in a red, white or blue color or combo. You know... the old metal kind that opens on a hinged side.
  • Floral foam or styrofoam for the bottom inside
  • Sand, usually like $1 a pound at the art supply store
  • Tall, assorted star spangled drink stirrers maybe with stars or pom pom like tops or flags
  • Tall, skinny tapered candles
  • A few shiny plastic stars to adorn the sand (maybe from the tops of stirrers)
  • A few sparklers

Putting the items together is pretty self explanatory. Open the lunchbox, put foam in the bottom and cover with sand. Use about five candles stuck randomly in the sand surrounded by some of the drink stirrers and sparklers. The sand decorations can be few, just something to make the plain sand look more charming. Light the sparklers just before the crowd comes to the table.

It might make you feel like a kid again yourself, playing with the sand making a sand castle with flags. When you are all done, make sure you take a picture of your nostalgic centerpiece for your scrapbook!
