Seeing painted glasses inside the house of a friend I visited the other day made me somewhat inspired to create my own painted glass artwork. Their vibrancy and color can attract anyone that visits that particular home. Of course, the glasses displayed in her home were professionally done, so I cannot really expect mine to be anywhere near that, especially since this will be my first time.
To prepare for it, I scanned through some of these glass painting articles. I found this one particularly useful. It warns us that we might get disappointed because of the brush stroke marks that will be left, but that's fine with me as long as I see that there a lot of colors.
According to the article, what we will need are brushes with soft bristles or sponge if we really don't want to see any brush stroke. Then we will also need paint, which also varies in quality depending on the kind of pigment used. That article also lists down particular pigments that you can use on various glassware.
As a start, you can get an eight-sided glass jar where you can pratice. I myself do not want to paint on expensive glass just yet when I am not yet familiar with the process! For added effect, you might also want to use different colors to achieve a mosaic-like effect. After making painting your glass work, it is also recommende that you bake the glass at low levels so that the paint will be fixed on your glass.
I'm excited to try out this craft once I get back home. Maybe I can already start with the jars left in the kitchen. I think they will make perfect decorations in the living room when they are done. Once you are able to try it out yourself, do tell us about the experience by making a comment below.
