Spooky Halloween Treats

10/24/09 14:53

In the previous posts, we've talked about some ideas that you can create for your Halloween outifts and the Halloween ornaments that you can put at home. Now, let's make everything a bit more in-style and make Halloween treats this time around.

Yes, I mean those treats that you can give to those kids who will be coming to your house. Instead of giving them the staple treats that one gives during Halloween, why not create our own spooky treats, right? All you have to do is to take out those treats that you usually give away and put some spooky touch to it.

For example, you can take out your lollipops and turn them into ghost lollipops. In this case, you will have to have some piece of cloth that you can cover the lollipop with, after which you can use a felt tip to draw eyes on your ghosts. Tie the cloth somewhere beneath the actual candy to hold it in place and that's it. You can already give your ghost lollies to the kids in your neighborhood.

Another idea presented at HalloweenTreats.com are crunchy eyeballs. Eyeball treats are quite common, though most recipes use different candies for the base of the eye. In this case, the recipe recommends to use Hershey's Cookies and Creme Bites for the eyes. They are already white in color, so you will only have to create the iris of the eye.

For this, what you need are icing colors (preferebly green, blue, brown, and black), 1 white egg, and 2 cups sifted sugar. You can scale them depending on your needs. In a bowl, whip the white egg for 3 minutes or until it already has this fluffy texture. Gradually mix in the sugar until they are thoroughly mixed.

Now divide this mixture into four and mix each one with a different icing color (except the black one). By this, you should already have green, blue, and brown icing that you can paint on the Bites. Use an icing brush for this one. For a more realistic feel, use the black icing as the center of the eye, while a plain white icing can be used as some sort of light reflection.
