In the past we have already talked and talked about different kinds of craft making techniques. In these project, we mainly used new materials that we buy from the supermarket, the supply store, or those hobby shops. This time around, let's try to do something that is more environment-friendly and use our old computer keyboard keys as the highlight of our project.
This one was loosely based on this article on CraftBits.com, which made a similar project. The idea is to get a key out of your old computer's keyboard and use them as an accessory.
The first thing you have to find out is to how to remove your keyboard's keys. The older keyboard keys can be easily removed by only using a flat-headed screwdriver. The new ones, on the other hand, are more difficult to remove because they sometimes have additional support holding on below. You may want to make a Google search of your computer keyboard model to find out what to do. Most of the keyboard pieces should be able to detach nicely, but in case they don't, you can use a dremel tool to smoothen the edges.
Depending on the kind of jewelry you want to make, you should either put one or two holes on your newly detached keyboard key. In order to do this, you should get a very small nail and a candle. Use the candle to heat the tip of the nail, which will be immediately used to pierce the keyboard key. Nails are conductors so they are bound to burn you if you heat them up using only your bare hands. It is for this purpose that you are supposed to use a pair of pliers to hold the nails.
Once you've already burned a hole (or holes) through your keyboard key, you can then slip in the string that you will use for your jewelry. The option to add additional designs is already up to you. You may make the key a pendant, upon which there are no more other items to be connected with a string, or maybe a full-blown bracelet complete with other keyboard keys. You decide.
