Fibersden Interview

By Interviewer at 06/27/08 12:15

Name of your website?

Fibersden

Your name?

Mary Gryciuk

Your Location (city, etc)

Haliburton

Please give us a short summary of your website?

We retail knitting and crochet yarn, spinning and needle felting fibers, patterns, and casein knitting needles. The business is owned by a fiber artists, and have had a related store for 18 years.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

The cater to a larger customer base, and to share my knowledge with others.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

This is the first website.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I deal with all sorts of fibers

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

I have been knitting since the age of 3, (now 51), currently enrolled in a master spinner program and can offer quality advice to those that need it. We consider knitting as an art not just a hobby and would like to share this with others.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

the website will be a source of income and to offer my knowledge with others and bring back the passion of knitting

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I am semi-retired and teach at an Arts College and spend more time helping these days

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Spend more time designing, promoting within the yarn industry

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

yes

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

knitters that do not appreciate quality materials and what benefits they provide and the appreciation and satisfaction of their finished products

What has been your biggest challenge?

convincing the public the quality of a finished handmade article versus something made in China

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

offering materials not found everywhere

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

it was a lot harder to get to this point than expected

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

we just started the website, have been selling on ebay for the past 6 months and will continue with the site until "death do us part"

Why should someone listen to your personal advice?

I teach at an Art College, run a knitting circle at our shop, have worked for a major yarn manufacturing as a trouble shooter for the design department, and I have the capability to create a pattern from a picture

What is your website address?

Fibersden
