Leaf Printing

10/03/09 07:42

Now that we are already in the autumn season, it is only natural that a lot of people would like to make crafts or buy things at home with fall leaf-inspired designs. Things with this kind of design are fairly easy to find, especially during this season. I myself have a number of bedsheets here that are autumn-inspired.

So why don't we just create an autumn-inspired craft on our own? It's an exciting activity that is worth a try. I'm talking about printing leaf designs on paper or fabric using actual leaves. How do you do it? Here's how.

First, you will have to gather your materials. The first thing that you should have the material on which you will print on. As far as experience is concerned, it is fairly easy to print on cloth and paper, though the kind of paint you will use depends on this. Other materials that you should bring are paint (printing ink for paper and fabric paint for, well, fabric), a roller, sponge brush, a plate, scrap paper, and a paint mixer should you desire to mix colors.

Now that you have your materials ready, you should then put your leaf on the scrap paper, with the vein side up, and dab it with paint your sponge brush until it's evenly coated, though not thick. After that, put the inked side of your leaf facing the material you will print on and cover it with scrap paper. Use the roller over it using uneven pressure. If you don't have the roller, you can also use your hand to press on the leaf. Just make sure that the pressure is even.

Finally, once that's done, you can do the process over and over again using different kinds of leafs and different colors until you achieve your desired design. Let it dry for a couple of hours and that's it!
