How To Tye Dye

By Kelly Jelly at 06/20/07 12:21

Tye dye is a great way to make old white shirts into new colorful clothes. These directions teach you how to make a classic spiral shirt.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • 1. Get a bottle to squeeze on the dye, like an old ketchup bottle they use in diners.
  • 2. Get a white shirt and wet it just so its damp, then lay it flat on the table. Place your finger in the middle [this will be your spiral]
  • 3. Begin winding the shirt, finger still in the middle, until its about as tall as a doorknob, and as wide as a saucer
  • 4. Put three or four rubberbands on your shirt so it looks like pizza slices
  • 5. Place your spiral in the sink and fill your sink up to the top of your spiral. Pour a bit of soda ash into the water and mix it fairly good. Let shirt soak for about 20-25 min. When you're done, ring out but do not rinse
  • 6. Grab your bottles of dye and pour a different color in each slice of your shirt
  • 7. Get some plastic wrap or something and cover your shirt for 24 hours
  • 8. After 24 hours, rinse with water until your water is fairly clean. then you can cut your rubber bands
  • 9. Right after rinsing, throw in washer with warm water and dry for 20 min.
AND YOU'RE DONE!!!!!!
