Crepe yarn is made by using a greater number of twists per inch than normal yarn. Often s twists or z twists (also known as left-hand twists and right-hand twists) are used, this means that the twist in the yarn will resemble the center part of the letter S or look like the center of the letter Z.
Sometimes some risers (the interlacing of warp over the filler threads) that are present in plain weave are left out so as to increase the float of the yarn from 1 to 3.
