Tracey Allen Your Location (city, etc) Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island Please give us a short summary of your website? The bestofpei Store is home to a host of works by more than 250 of Prince Edward Island's finest artisans. We continuously seek out talented Island artists, musicians, craftspeople, and specialty chefs who reflect the Island's personality and lifestyle in their work. What inspired you to launch your own website? We wanted to share Prince Edward Island products with the world and give Island artisans an online storefront. What are your favourite products on the website? Embers award winning chocolate sauce and 'Holy Crap That's Hot' sauce are a few of the great specialty food items. The Sea Splash shampoo with seaweed is great, and homemade soaps. Unique quilts, art designed on slate from an old Island courthouse, wool blankets. Plus the wooden ship kits, wooden train set, and more. How did you decide on a name for your website? Simple - it is the name of our store on Victoria Row. What makes it different from other, similar offerings? We offer 100% Island made products and are the only store that is truly all Prince Edward Island. What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?) We want to eventually grow the business. How does your investment of time and money balance against your success? It is a lot of upfront work but it is will be worth in the long term. If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site? Add interactivity. If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand? Hope so. What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with? Uploading information on over 250 artisans products is time consuming but worth it. What has been your biggest challenge? Getting the information to upload is a challenge - everyone is busy. What method has been most successful for promoting your website? Links, search engines, and press releases. What is one challenge you have for marketing your store online? Finding inexpensive and targeted opportunities to promote that charge on sales rather than impressions. Do you have an email newsletter? Yes and we would like to grow it bigger. What type of news do you post? We will be listing upcoming events in our news. We host "Meet the Artist Series" where Island Artisans come in and do demonstrations. The JUMP game creator shows people how to play the game, while singers will entertain.
