Scrapping Sensations Interview

By Interviewer at 12/14/07 20:07

Name of your website?

Scrapping Sensations

Your name?

Kim Chlanda

Your Location (city, etc)

Gladstone

Please give us a short summary of your website?

I carry various scrapbook supplies on my website. I attempt to buy from smaller vendors to keep my inventory unique. You won't see my products in your local craft stores.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I am a cancer survivor and I decided that I wanted to do something I love. Somehow, sitting behind a desk in some huge corporation wasn't looking very attractive to me. I love scrapbooking, and I love my kids, and this new adventure provided me the ability to have time for both. I love it!

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

Scrapping Sensations is my first website, and it was launched just a couple of months ago!

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I wanted something "sensational," something that people would come to and think to themselves "great site." So, Scrapping Sensations was born.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

I try to select manufacturers who are small, who still have the ability to control their quality. I buy a lot of double sided cardstock, it makes wonderful scrapbook pages. I keep my pricing fair, and I don't overcharge for shipping.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I want my business to become something I can be proud of - I want to stand back and say "I built that - from scratch - and look what it is today!" I want my customers to keep coming back because they can count on old fashioned values in a computerized world.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

In any new business you have to invest money to make money. My business is new and I don't expect to be comparable to Donald Trump for another two or three years (lol)! Seriously, my success is measured simply by getting here, now I am fully focused on making it work - and it will.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would advertise more.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes, I would hire a staff.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

No headaches. The USPS creates quite a challenge when trying to figure shipping costs.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Having all of those wonderful Scrapbook enthusiasts find my website!

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

I advertised in online scrapbook magazine websites and newsletters.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It's still too early to tell.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I've been working on my website since April 07' and I plan to continue working on it indefinitely.

What is your website address?
