Name of your website?

Cozy Crop House

Your name?

Kate Rothacker

Your Location (city, etc)

Lancaster, PA

Please give us a short summary of your website?

A scrapbook retreat house set up for small groups (maximum 12) of women wanting to get away and work on their scrapbooking.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I've helped many people with their scrapbooking and it has become my full-time business.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I started the parent company, Local Memories Scrapbook Services, many years ago (six or more), and its website is still operating. The Cozy Crop House has grown out of that. http://www.localmemories.com

How did you decide on a name for your website?

CozyCropHouse.com is the obvious name for people particularly looking for my retreat house; LocalMemories.com came about as I met a need for scrapbook items related to my local area.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

As far as I know, the Cozy Crop House is the only scrapbook retreat house in our Central PA location.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My goal is to help others set up this type of operation in their areas, using our success as a formula. We are developing the franchise operation and are currently working on our second location.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

My time is heavily invested in the operation of this business, but we are getting a reasonable return for our financial investments.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would make my site more graphically appealing, with improved navigation. I would like to incorporate some rollover tabs, more graphic design, etc. It is very basic HTML and is very text-heavy.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

No. We are limited in our availability at this point.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Insurance costs, site & equipment maintenance, careless treatment of the property by renters.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Appropriate zoning for our physical site, and explaining the concept to "unbelievers."

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Word of mouth; posting in targeted web listings.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

More time consuming.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Not looking for gains in traffic at this point; it is serving the need of providing info about the business to customers and potential customers.

How can someone join you in this opportunity?

Interested franchisees can contact me, Kate Rothacker, at info@localmemories.com.

What is your website address?
