The Art of Crafting Interview

By Interviewer at 01/02/09 07:13

Name of your website?

The Art of Crafting

Your name?

Richard Francis

Your Location (city, etc)

Ottawa

Write a short description of your site

The site was created for people to advertise and sell their crafts online.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

My family makes homemade items such as jewellery, rosaries and other items so I thought it might be a good way to sell our products as well as give others the same opportunity.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

This is my first website and I launched it about 2 months ago. It is still really new and I am dealing with a large learning curve. I hope to get my site more well known within the next year.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

It just came to me and seems to fit perfectly with the type of site it is.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

I think my site is perfect for people who make their own crafts. I am currently offering free listings which is rare.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My goal is to get my site known all over Canada and hopefully have hundreds of crafter's sign up and sell their crafts on my site.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Of course - I have help from my family.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Not really - the only thing that is a lot harder than I expected is getting people to my site and getting traffic naturally.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Getting traffic to my site and promoting it.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Writing to crafter's on other promotional sites to let them know about my site.

What is your website address?
