crochet Buggs Books and Used Patterns Interview
Name of your website?

Buggs Books and Used Patterns

Your name?

val buchanan

Your Location (city, etc)

campbell river, british columbia

Please give us a short summary of your website?

I sell new and used patterns of every sort . sewing, crochet, knitting, macrame, woodworking, tole painting , etc

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I love to collect patterns, and i love to go to garage sales. As well i love going to second hand stores. As i have a young daughter as well as three older kids. I decided selling patterns from home would be fun !

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I have been selling on ebay since they first started , but wanted to find a place where it wasn't as expensive.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

When i was a child i had buck teeth , lol, so my dad named me buggs (buggs bunny) =)

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

Well it isn't a store, i don't have any employees, and all my books are in shelves in my laundry room lol. Its one on one customer service!

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I would love to be able to at least pay for some extra activities for the family.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

lol, well its taking time for my website to get out there. but i'm hoping it gets better

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

hmmm perhaps more stock.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

I'm sure i could. I would have to hire my older kids!

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Well the headaches are people inquiring about books , me getting them off the shelf, weighing them for postage figuring all that out . Stating at the bottom of emails to please let me know if you are still interested. And then you don't hear a peep from some people =(

What has been your biggest challenge?

Keeping my friends out of my pattern books lol.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

word of mouth and going on forums , etc

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

i never realized how popular it would become.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

i have ran it for about three years and i will continue to run it until i can't find anymore books! =)

What is your website address?
