Name of your website?

Sewing Machines and Sewing Projects

Your name?

Joey

Your Location (city, etc)

Houston

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Posts reviews, pictures, and instructions on using older, mechanical sewing machines. Actually uses these machines to demonstrate free sewing projects.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Many older, mechanical machines cost much less than brand-new, low-end, discount store plastic garbage -- and the fact that these metal, mechanical wonders are still plugging away suggests that they'll still be working years and years from now. BUT -- it's sometimes hard to find information and documentation on these machines. That's the goal of this website -- to provide this sort of information.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

In 1998, launched "Free Sheet Music" at http://www.freesheetmusic.net. I just missed registering the .com version -- someone grabbed it and has had it redirected to an affiliate link for the last 9 years!

How did you decide on a name for your website?

It's just descriptive -- Sewing Machines and Sewing Projects.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

Other "old machine" websites tend to focus on old Singer machines. I try to cover the popular older machines that you can still purchase for $100 or less on Ebay.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Grow it.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I measure success in traffic -- still waiting to make that leap.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I'd do what I'm currently doing -- just do it faster.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Sure -- this is what I do for fun.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None -- I've been building websites for quit a while.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Finding links -- this niche is pretty bare.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Still looking!

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Hasn't.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

It's been up for a couple of years -- and I have no plans to give it up.

What's the secret of the universe?

47? Or is it 84? No, wait -- it's "Blue", right?

What is your website address?
