Howard Mendelson's Stained Glass Studio Interview

By Interviewer at 02/25/09 11:03

Name of your website?

Howard Mendelson's Stained Glass Studio

Your name?

Howard Mendelson

Your Location (city, etc)

Herndon, Virginia

Please give us a short summary of your website?

The sites shows some of the nice stained glass I create.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

My daughter and husband were on a home improvement reality show called "Moving Up." I made a pretty lamp for them. There is a 2 second cameo of me in the show. The host, Doug Smith liked it. Its displayed on the web site. They felt that it made sense to let people see what I make and perhaps it would lead to a new career path (!). I do a few art commissions but I have a decent full time job.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

2 or 3 years ago. The current one

How did you decide on a name for your website?

My nephew set me up. Its my name. Its makes it easy to remember.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

Many people feel my artwork is superb. I've won two juried competitions. You will enjoy the pictures. If you have a moment, look over the picture "Passion." It is my favorite and most people need to look it over for a while before they understand it.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

either use it as a sales vehicle or as an educational study of art

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

It took a while to create it but it doesn't cost me anything. I wish more people would view it.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

If you are referring to the site, it would be nice to have some music and a variety of slide shows base on different stained glass themes

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

No

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None

What has been your biggest challenge?

the web site is incidental to my enjoyment of the art

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Word of mouth only

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I thought there would be more visits

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Indefinitely

What is your website address?

Howard Mendelson's Stained Glass Studio
