Portfolio of works by Ashley Handlin Interview

By Interviewer at 06/10/09 15:56

What is the name of your Blog?

Portfolio of works by Ashley Handlin

What is your name?

Ashley Handlin

Where are you from? (include country, state and/or city)

Melville, NY, USA

What is your current age or age range?

20

Please describe your blog

It is a collection of photos of my work or uploaded images if my work is computer based, as well as quick explanations of what the work is/made with/for.

Describe the main purpose of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish?

To have more people view my work, more potential buyers of my work or design services.

What blogging platform do you do and why?

Um... Do you mean which service? I use tumblr if that is what you are asking. Why - because it is easy to use and looks good.

What do you blog the most about?

My work.

What kind of blogs make you angry?

The kind written by people who don't know what they are talking about. Political blogs written by idiots who don't at least think about the argument from the other side. (By that I mean, like a Democrat-related blog that doesn't at least take into consideration points made by Republicans, and vice-versa). Hateful blogs too - ones that bash people.

Give five of your best blogging tips.

Keep it relavant. Don't ramble. Post good pictures. Post good links. Use spell check.

What are some things you would NEVER blog about?

Anything that isn't related to my artwork unless its an extreme exception - so if a war breaks out in my country (or in another country but mine is fighting in it) and I don't agree with the circumstance, I would perhaps write an entry of protest. But mainly art.

Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money?

Sort of - I want people who are interested in design services to see my blog and perhaps hire me. Same with art buyers, I am a fine artist as well as a designer, I don't believe in choosing one or the other when you have talent in both.

How long have you been blogging?

A few days :)

About how many hours per day do you spend blogging?

Not a lot - I just started so I am mainly uploading my work - once I find a way to make it so you have to click something to see my 'writing' blog I will start posting daily or semi-daily written blog posts.

Do you track RSS feeds and if so, how many do you usually track daily?

No.

Do you use Digg, and why or why not?

No. I'm not really into the whole web 2.0 fad things.

Do you use Stumbleupon, and why or why not?

No. I'm not really into the whole web 2.0 fad things.

What promotional techniques work best for you and why?

Twitter! I love twitter! So perhaps I am somewhat into web 2.0 fad things :)

If you could post a blog on any blog in the world, which one would it be and why?

My own? I guess perhaps abuzeedo or spoongraphics - but spoon graphics is the blog of a designer who just so happens to be well known because of it. Abuzeedo has great tutorials and features.

What mistakes have you made that you could warn others about?

Don't go to college based on your hobbies (for example, I love to snowboard, so when I graduated highschool I went to a college by some mountains that wasn't that great for my major and I wasted a lot of time and money there).

What are your top five blogging site picks and why?

http://hazeldooney.blogspot.com/

I love her work. And her writings.

http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/

I love his photos. Amazing street fashion photography.

Her photos and her words. Great stuff, now in english!

I found out about him when I was looking up this thing called 'polyphasic sleep'. He did a personal experiment that he claims to have lasted about a half of a year or so where he would sleep in 20 minute intervals, six times a day. He made a ton of posts about it, chronicalling his adventures. I kept reading, and then I read some other articles of his. He writes some real interesting stuff, a ton of content, and it's free. Amazing!

I found out about him from the Steve Palina blog. He is also interesting.

All around, I love interesting people and that's why I read their stuff!

Have you met anyone offline as a result of your blog?
